SALT LAKE CITY – June 8, 2009 – In a move that underscores tremendous progress since its 2008
inception, SageCreek Partners, a consulting company
that provides “mentor capital” for technology businesses, today announced that
the company’s Managing Partner, Greg Butterfield, has been selected as an
inductee into the 2009 Utah Technology Council (UTC) Hall of Fame. Together with Peter
D. Meldrum and Mark H. Skolnick, the co-founders of Myriad Genetics, Greg
Butterfield will be honored at the 11th annual Hall of Fame black-tie gala on
Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Grand Ballroom of the Grand America Hotel,
Salt Lake City.

“Greg’s straight forward, no-non-sense leadership style was
a pleasure to deal with both before and after the acquisition was completed,”
said John
Thompson
, Chairman of the Board of Symantec who initiated and completed the
Altiris acquisition in 2007.  “He became a trusted member of our
leadership team and executed the integration plan flawlessly.  I’ve often
said we should only consider acquisitions where the leadership team
demonstrates similar leadership qualities and behaviors as Greg did.”

The Hall of Fame event honors individuals with Utah ties who
have made key contributions to the information technology and life science
industries through new technology, innovation and leadership. These
contributions have resulted in job growth, commercialization of technology and
increased growth and development of the nation’s technology sector and economy.

This recognition is the most recent in a long list of honors
that Greg Butterfield has received. In 2006, Greg was invited to the World
Economic Forum as a Technology Pioneer. He was winner of the 2002 Ernst
and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Greg served as Chairman of the Board
of the Utah Technology Council (which was then UITA) from 2003 to 2005.

In late 2008, Greg joined with his current partners to
create SageCreek Partners, a consulting company that provides mentoring,
strategy and coaching to companies in the U.S., EMEA and Latin America to help new
and growing technology companies drive critical business results.

“I’ve had the chance to get very close to more than 100
companies over the course of my venture career,” said Michael Levinthal Capital
and former partner in the Mayfield Fund. “One of those companies was Altiris.
Greg Butterfield’s leadership as CEO and team builder produced extraordinary
results for that company. Of all the leaders I’ve had the chance to be involved
with, I would place him at the top of the class.  For Greg and his
SageCreek team–including capabilities in sales, finance, deal structuring, product
management and engineering–the chance to make these resources available to
additional companies in Utah as well as nationally and even globally is
incredibly valuable. It’s a missing piece of what we need to allow the next
generation or two of technology companies to accomplish the kind of fabulous
success and growth Altiris achieved. “

Prior to founding SageCreek Greg was the Group President of
the Altiris and Server and Storage business units for Symantec. Butterfield
joined Symantec through the company’s acquisition of Altiris in April 2007. At
Altiris, he served as chairman of the board, president and CEO. After
joining Altiris in February 2000, he guided the company to eight consecutive
years of revenue growth and profitability overseeing growth in revenue from $3M
to over $250M in seven years, and continued growth within Symantec.
Butterfield was the driving force behind eleven acquisitions and he
successfully completed an IPO in 2002 in the face of a notable economic
downturn. The IPO was followed in August of 2003 with a successful secondary
offering.

Mark
Sunday
, Senior Vice President and CIO of Oracle, said, “It’s a rare
occasion when you get to know an individual with such intellect, leadership,
drive, charisma and compassion that they set a higher standard both personally
and professionally that inspires not only me but everyone around them to be a
better version of themselves. Greg is certainly such a man.”

Prior to joining Altiris, he served as executive vice
president of worldwide sales at Vinca Corporation where he increased revenue
from $1.7 million to $24 million in less than three years and positioned the
company to be sold to Legato Systems for $92 million in 1999. He also held
executive level positions at Legato, Novell and WordPerfect Corporation.
Butterfield received a bachelors of science in business
administration, finance from Brigham Young University.
