Butterfield is the Managing Partner of mentor capital consulting firm SageCreek Partners and has been on the UVU Board since November 2008. For the past two years he has served as the board’s Vice Chair.

At SageCreek Partners, Butterfield and his team work with client companies to develop go-to-market strategies, recruit talent and assist in business development. SageCreek also offers independent board services, consults on technology commercialization, recommends funding methods and assists in analyzing exit strategies. Before founding SageCreek Partners, Butterfield was the Group President of the $4 billion dollar Altiris Server and Storage business units for Symantec. Butterfield joined Symantec when the company acquired Altiris in April 2007.

At Altiris, Butterfield was the chairman of the board, president and CEO. In these positions he guided the company to eight consecutive years of revenue growth and profitability, overseeing growth in revenue from $3 million to over $250 million. Under his leadership, Altiris successfully acquired eleven companies and completed its IPO in 2002.

Butterfield’s work has been recognized through a number of awards and leadership positions, including the 2002 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and as the chairman of the board of the Utah Information Technology Association from 2003 to 2005.
